Throughout the series, she lost only three cases. In Season 1, Episode 21 "David and Goliath", Chase tried a case against a professional baseball player, who killed his pregnant girlfriend. His not guilty verdict was attributed to his fame. In Season 2, Episode 21, "Drink the Cup", Chase was unable to convict a corrupt cop named Veeder of the murder of a fellow police officer. In the following episode she successfully tried Veeder for the murder of a young girl he exploited. If there are people that don't like this movie, I don't think they are human.

I was disappointed that nothing really shocked me, including who the killer was. Linwood Barclay’s novels reminds me a lot of Harlan Coben’s novels. They typically follow a male protagonist, who is married with a beautiful wife and they have 1-3 kids. The lead has some minor faults, but overall they are your typical average nice guy.

In this heart-wrenching series, we are looking at the tragedies that fell upon the Stayner family, and these events are on completely different ends of the spectrum. In part one, we look into the kidnapping and sexual abuse of 7-year old Stephen Stayner at the hands of child molester Kenneth Parnell. Stephen's innocence is matched only by the goodness in his heart, and his bravery saved not only his own life, but the life of another potential victim as well.

But then again- she's not the only woman with a history of omission to the issues of her workplace or other everyday "troubles" outside of the house and her roles there. And most of all that might seem so separated from usual family discourse. Then there are those units in which the members never keep their mouths shut about anything that has "gone on" that day. I felt that he was suppose to be this super great guy, but I couldn’t connect with him.

Make sure you have used the latrine hole and buckle up tight, because we are putting the pedal to the metal in this rickety People's Temple bus. In this super-sized penultimate episode in our People's Temple series, we explore in-depth the destitution plaguing Jonestown, the daily physical and mental abuse, and the unrest which followed. With defections, political attention, and contingency plans being formulated, the pieces are starting to fall into place for the devastating end. The series follows a young woman, Anna, from a working class life who, after having an affair with the President of the United States, becomes the center of a political scandal.

At that point, a lot of the mystery was revealed, and with little of the fun unknown left, I was impatient for it all to end already. You know what made these two books so much fun? Barklay thrusts you into a situation right from the get-go and there are so many unknowns that you have no idea what lies beyond the next turn.

After all, things like that just don't happen in small towns. But he is even more shocked to find that the police are looking at his son as their number one suspect. As Jim starts his own investigation into the murders, he stumbles on secrets and lies that may hold the key to the murders. In Promise Falls, a triple homicide takes place one evening next door to the Cutter's abode.

Predictable yet inconsistent ending, cliched cardboard characters, workmanlike prose. Starts off at a canter, and develops a nice tension that sadly collapses into a completely-foreseeable, ham-fisted ending. In the end, it was something of a chore to get through. All in all a very enjoyable book and it has certainly made me want to read more of Linwood Barclay's writing. To see what your friends thought of this book, please sign up. She is married to a construction worker, Jack Chase , and has an infant daughter, Hailey Chase.

Jim Jones And The People's Temple, Part 5 - Psalms 106:36-38

A woman obsessed with her adult son, angered by the idea of him leaving her and his marriage to a beautiful nurse, does everything in her power to prevent his independence. Drama about a woman who's on the fast track to success in Washington, D.C.'s political arena before a scandal sends her back home to rural Alabama and the dysfunctional family she thought she'd left behind. Trigger Warning… this episode contains many segments from the Jonestown Death Tape that feature very real human suffering and death. For those of you that may be triggered by these audio excerpts, it is strongly recommended that you skip this episode.

Every character had a secret and most of them had multiple secrets that they all kept from their supposed loved ones! I was really disappointed as my colleagues had raved about how much they loved Linwood Barclay. I didn't connect with the characters at all, or feel any of the tension for their situation. If I'm honest I just wanted to get to the end to see if I had guessed everything right!

No one heard or saw what happened to the Langley's, but everyone is assuming it had something to do with Albert's job as the town's criminal attorney. As the book progresses, we learn that everyone in this town seems to have a secret, but the largest secrets seem to lie within the Cutter's own family. Throw in a corrupt mayor and a pompous college president and you have a recipe for a suspenseful read to keep you up all night. Seventeen-year-old Derek Cutter’s best friend Adam Langley was going away for a week with his parents, Albert and Donna; their house would be vacant for that period.

Jim and Ellen Cutter found out about the murders of their neighbour the next morning. However, when Derek finally admitted to Jim that he witness the death of the Langleys, Jim started to investigate. The readers of Too Close To Home will continue to follow Jim Cutter investigation to find out what happens. This is one of the best murder mysteries I've read this year. Someone killed the Langley's and no one heard a thing, except for Derek Cutter, who was hiding in a crawlspace in the Langley's home. This murder has plagiarism written all over it, and no one is innocent when detective Barry Duckworth investigates.
